Malai vazhaipazham ( Virupakshi Hill Banana ) is GI tagged indigenous banana distinctly known for its sweet taste and a dry pulpy texture.

As the dry pulp acts as a natural preservative, the dishes made using these bananas remain fresh for a longer duration.

Here are a few interesting facts about this indigenous banana :

The famous ‘Panchamritham’ of Palani Temple is made with these bananas which is known to last for months due to the nature of the bananas.
The Government of India has certified it a rarity and provided the Heritage GI tag to the Virupakshi Hill Bananas.
This type of banana retains its characteristic color, flavor, and aroma only when cultivated at high elevations of 1200 – 1500 feet.
The shelf life of the fruit is about 10 days under ambient temperature. Rich in potassium, vitamins C and B6. Excellent source of fiber.

Note: The fruit will be shipped in semi ripe stage for shipping purpose, it will take a couple of days to fully ripen
