Nanjangud Rasabale is one of the iconic fruits of the old Mysore region and is considered to be Mysore's pride. It is distinct in taste and aroma and has bagged the geographical indications in 2005, but Nanjangud Rasabale is on the verge of the extinction due to Panama Wilt disease.
Though it is in demand, farmers are averse to growing it as a combination of the disease and weather has made it very difficult and unviable to cultivate. It is also said to be the best banana variety in the world according to fans of this variety, and is said to have been patronised by the Wadiyars.
