Gardening

Palak, commonly known as spinach (Spinacia oleracea), is a leafy green vegetable widely used in Indian cuisine and many other cultures for its mild flavor and rich nutritional content. It is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making it an essential part of a healthy diet. In Indian cuisine, palak is used in a variety of dishes such as Palak Paneer, Palak Dal, and Palak Paratha.

Palak is an excellent source of vitamins A, C, and K. It also contains folate, which is essential for cell growth and development.

Spinach is well known for its iron content, making it a good addition to the diet, especially for those with iron deficiencies.

Palak contains antioxidants like beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, which are beneficial for eye health.

Soil Preparation:
Spinach grows best in rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter.
The soil pH should be slightly acidic to neutral, around 6.0–7.0.

Planting :
Planting Depth: Sow the seeds about 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) deep.
Spacing: Space seeds 2-3 inches (5-7 cm) apart in rows that are spaced about 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) apart.

Temperature :
Spinach prefers cooler temperatures and grows best in temperatures between 45°F to 75°F (7°C to 24°C).
It can be planted in early spring or fall when the weather is cooler.

Watering :
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Spinach requires regular watering, especially during germination.

Sunlight :
Spinach grows best in full sun but can tolerate partial shade. In very hot climates, partial shade during the hottest part of the day can prevent the plant from bolting (going to seed too early).

Germination Time:
Palak seeds typically germinate in 5-10 days, depending on temperature and moisture.

Thinning :
Once seedlings are about 2 inches tall, thin them out to leave 6 inches (15 cm) between plants to allow them room to grow.

Harvesting :
Spinach leaves can be harvested when they are about 4-6 inches long. Harvesting can begin about 30-45 days after planting.
You can harvest the outer leaves first and allow the inner leaves to keep growing or cut the entire plant about an inch above the ground for a one-time harvest.

No of seeds per pkt : 60

Germination Rate: 70%
