, unlike every other variety of rice. Yes! Magic rice is a one-of-its-kind ‘zero fuel’ variety of rice.
This unique variety of Assamese rice is very simple to “cook”. All one needs to do is soak the rice in normal water for 15 minutes to swell and Voila! You are all set to enjoy Assam’s delicious ‘magic rice’. Locals like it best with milk, jaggery and banana.
You can have this rice for breakfast - a most yummy traditional breakfast of Assam - "Kumal Saul ar Jolpaan" (Breakfast of Soft Rice). You just need to soak the rice in water - its grains will expand and soften and become ready to eat.
Soak for 15 minutes in normal water. Mix it with curd or milk and sweeten with bananas and/or jaggery. You can add cream/butter/ghee/dry fruits while preparing for kids.
Also, you can also eat this rice with some sabji or chutney took, which can be a different option and taste.
It is also very healthy - has 10.73 per cent fibre content and 6.8 per cent protein, according to a study by the Guwahati University’s Biotechnology department.
A much better option than reaching out for that pack of cornflakes for breakfast :-)
This particular batch is of superior quality from upper Assam - our friend Chiranjeev hunted for more than a month to find the right source for this ! There are various grades of this available - this is the topmost grade - it is boiled and dried under sunlight in a single day - that's why it soaks faster than other varieties of Kumal/Boka Saul.

This rice has traditionally been used by the royal family of the Ahom Dynasty from 12th century. This farm is located near Shivsagar district of Assam.
