Gardening

The "Brinjal Green Long" refers to a variety of eggplant (also known as brinjal or aubergine) that is characterized by its elongated, cylindrical shape and green skin. This variety is commonly used in South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Mediterranean cuisines.

Climate and Soil:

Brinjal thrives in warm climates, requiring a temperature range of 20°C to 35°C. It does not tolerate frost.
The soil should be well-draining, rich in organic matter, with a pH level between 5.5 and 7.0.

Sowing Seeds:

You can start by sowing seeds indoors in seed trays or pots 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost.
Transplant the seedlings outdoors when they are about 8-10 cm tall and after the frost has passed.

Spacing and Sunlight:

Plant the seedlings 2-3 feet apart in a sunny location (6-8 hours of sunlight daily).
Brinjal plants grow tall, so ensure they have enough space to develop.

Watering :

Water regularly but avoid waterlogging. The soil should stay moist but not soggy.
Mulching around the plants can help retain moisture.

Fertilizing :

Brinjal is a heavy feeder, so apply a balanced fertilizer once the plants start flowering.
You can use compost, manure, or a nitrogen-rich organic fertilizer.

Pest Control:

Watch out for common pests like aphids, whiteflies, and brinjal borers. Neem oil or organic insecticidal soap can help manage them.
Regularly inspect plants for signs of infestation.

Harvesting :

The fruits can be harvested when they are firm and shiny, typically 70-80 days after transplanting.
Don't wait too long, as overripe brinjals can become bitter.
