Most coconut oil is made from dry coconut, i.e. copra. This is cold-pressed
virgin
coconut oil - and is made from fresh coconuts (the one we make chutneys or squeeze milk out of). To make a litre of virgin coconut oil we need around 18 to 20 fresh coconuts. Whereas in normal coconut oil we need 4-5 ball of copra. This is why virgin coconut oil costs more than regular coconut oil. The content of good saturated fats, vitamin E etc. is more in virgin coconut oil than normal coconut oil, since the many nutrients, good fats etc. are lost during the process of drying coconut to copra over a year.
