Brought to the region by the Bhonsalas - the erstwhile rulers of the region in the 19th century, oranges made Nagpur famous. They received geographical indication (GI) tag in 2014, giving its growers here the sole right to use the words ‘Nagpur Orange’.
Known for its loose sleeve and the ease with which the skin can be peeled, these oranges are medium sized and have a slightly reddish tinge. They are smoother than other varieties and come with a thin rind and are also known to be juicier and sweeter.
Oranges are a healthy source of fiber, vitamin C, thiamine, folate, and antioxidants. They are good for the heart, help in preventing kidney stones and help prevent anemia when combined with Iron rich foods due the the presence of organic acids like Vitamin C and citric acid which aids absorption of Iron.

Sandeep is a lawyer by profession and got inspired by ZBNF farming when he googled about low budget farming and came in touch with the grassroots movement led by Padmashree Subhash Palekar. Today he is not just an ardent natural farmer but is spearheading natural farming movement in the region. He grows sweet lime, veggies and other staple foods in his farms with natural farming techniques. He has also obtained PGS certification for his produce.
