Sitara Farm
Methi Seeds - Organically Grown - 100 GM
Staples
Organically grown methi seeds are those that have been cultivated without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Instead, organic farming methods rely on natural fertilizers, crop rotation, and biological pest control to ensure the growth of healthy plants.
About Farmer:
Shanthi and Ashish Chandola are wildlife photographers and have also been doing pesticide free organic farming for over 15 years
The farm is called ‘Sitara’ after their first pet Boxer dog who started this journey with them. The farm is located in Lokkere village near Bandipur Tiger Reserve and showcases their commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices.
As the farm abuts the Reserve Forest, they have to be mindful of what crops are grown so as not to attract elephants, wild boar etc. Still they manage a decent diversity of crops such as Erode haldi (turmeric), small ( sambar ) onions, chillies, tur dal, avocado, dragon fruit, marigold, sunflower, chia seeds and condiments like methi ,dhania and mustard seeds. These crops have significant culinary and medicinal value, making them highly sought after.
Farming is all natural with Farm yard manure, bio fertilizers like Jeevamrit, Panchagaavi, and using natural neem based pesticides and Dasagavya etc. This approach helps maintain the health of the crops while minimizing negative impacts on the environment and wildlife in the Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
It's inspiring to see individuals like Shanthi and Ashish Chandola combining their passion for wildlife photography with sustainable farming practices. Their efforts not only contribute to the local economy but also promote organic agriculture and conservation of the surrounding ecosystem.
