Stingless bee honey (Cheruthean) is one of the most complex natural food substances available. This type of honey quantitatively possesses a higher moisture content, greater acidity, a slightly lower level of total carbohydrates, and higher levels of antioxidant and biological activities than Apis Mellifera honey. Since these bees are much smaller than regular bees, they are able to visit and collect nectars from a wide variety of small flowers which larger bees cannot access - this leads to a more complex nutritional profile with a lot of medicinal properties.
While normal bees build vertical hanging wax combs, the hives of small bees is made with horizontal brood combs with one type of cell that opens upward. Honey production of small bees is much less when compared to the ordinary bees. Thus, stingless bee honey is expensive and rare.

The Kuruvinakunnel Tharavadu property in Pala, Kerala has been with the family for over 6 generations. Initially our forefathers used to grow paddy in the watery stretch and coffee (Robusta), pepper, coconut, arecanut in the high lands. The paddy area was later on converted to sugarcane fields . Coffee was converted to a cocoa plantation. At present the plantation consists of cocoa, rubber, pepper and a variety of fruiting trees. And in our plantation in Idukki we grow pepper and coffee both Arabica and Robusta. We follow natural farming with rotation of crops.
