Bitter Gourd Sapling - Pack Of 4 Saplings
Gardening
Growing bitter gourd, also known as bitter melon or karela, from saplings is a great way to ensure a successful start for your plants.
Prepare the Soil : Bitter gourd plants thrive in well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Prepare the soil by adding compost or well-rotted manure to improve its fertility. The soil pH should be slightly acidic to neutral.
Provide Adequate Water : Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Bitter gourd plants require regular watering, especially during dry spells. Once the seeds germinate and seedlings emerge, water them gently to avoid disturbing the young plants
Sunlight : Bitter gourd plants need plenty of sunlight to grow and produce healthy fruits. Choose a sunny location in your garden where the plants can receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Transplanting : Once the bitter gourd seedlings have grown several inches tall and have a few leaves, they can be transplanted into the garden or larger containers. Space the plants about 3-4 feet apart in rows or provide trellises for vertical growth.
Fertilization : Bitter gourd plants benefit from regular feeding. Use a balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) and follow the package instructions for application rates. You can also side-dress the plants with compost during the growing season to provide additional nutrients.
Support : Bitter gourd plants are vigorous climbers and benefit from support. Provide trellises, stakes, or other vertical structures for the vines to climb. This not only saves space but also keeps the fruits off the ground, reducing the risk of pests and diseases.
